How many times have you been so eager to watch the latest episode of your favourite show or watch your favourite movie online before being punched in the face with the infamous message “this content is not available in your region”? This usually happens because the website you are trying to stream media on (Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, Pandora, Spotify etc) detects your geo-location and blocks your attempt to access its servers.  It sounds very disappointing, doesn’t it? That is why most internet users use Smart DNS or VPNs to bypass geo-restrictions and stream their favourite content online.

Today we have picked “Getflix“, a SmartDNS/VPN provider – which advertises itself as the best for unblocking restricted media streaming websites on the internet- to write our review based on their free trial. Scroll down for more details about Getflix.

Getflix is a SmartDNS service that has its headquarters in Turkey. Its main focus is to help users access as many media channels as possible around the world by going over any geo-restrictions. Adding to their SmartDNS services, Getflix also provides a decent VPN service that is equipped with multi-layered encryption protocols.

Getflix Free Trial

Getflix offers a free trial that is valid for 14 days. This means that you can thoroughly test the service and stream as much media as you want for two weeks free of charge.

Price Plans

Getflix is relatively cheap since SmartDNS is a much cheaper service than a VPN. They offer 5 attractive price plans that come with a free VPN service.

– 1 month for $4.95

– 3 months for $12.95

– 6 months for $22.95

– 12 months for $39.90

– 24 months for $54.90

Payment Methods

Getflix accepts these payment options: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and JCB. Sadly they don’t accept safer payment methods like Bitcoins.

Compatibility

As a service that revolves around entertainment, Getflix is fully compatible with all devices and platforms, such as: Windows, Mac, Playstation consoles, Xbox consoles, Nintendo Wii, iOS (iPhone/iPad), Android, Apple TV, Roku, WD TV Live.

Privacy & Security

Even though Getflix is more focused on providing unlimited access to any media streaming service online, it does provide a VPN that relies on high-level encryption protocols, such as OpenVPN. It also supports PPTP, L2TP/IPsec, SSTP protocols. Further, being a SmartDNS operated service is more about routing your data traffic to bypass geo-restriction than 100% encrypting  your personal data online, your browsing history.

As for their privacy policy, we find it quite ambiguous. They say that they do not keep traffic logs, however they strictly state that they may keep some personal information including name, email address and payment card information. So, if you are not comfortable giving out your personal information and looking for a more private and security sophisticated service, Getflix might not be the best choice for you, yet it should definitely be considered for streaming media online.

Getflix Features

Let’s now explore together the multiple features offered by Getflix.

Media Channels

Getflix takes huge pride in the services they grant access to, including: Hulu, Amazon Instant Video, Vudu, Crackle, Flixter, NBC, ABC (news & family), CBS, Fox Now, PBS, HBO Now, HBO Go, Sling TV, Disney, The History Channel, National Geographic, Direct TV, Syfy, AOL On, South Park Studios, Viki, Drama Fever, BBC (iPlayer, Sports), Sky Sports, ITV Player, Sky Go, Now TV, and many more.

It is not mentioned on their website that they can unblock Netflix, which we find awkward enough.

SmartDNS

As explained above, a SmartDNS helps routing part of your data through different servers to be able to go over any web restriction and enjoy streaming any media content online. Getlfix is all about SmartDNS and its variants. On the other hand, Getflix SmartDNS does not permit P2P sharing, but it is provides fast HD streaming and is easy to setup.

VPN Service

To strengthen their security, Getflix provides a free fully-operational VPN service for users who want to boost their internet security. Getflix VPN has an appealing network of servers that are spread across 40 countries with unlimited bandwidth.

Moreover, Getflix allows P2P sharing and torrenting while using their VPN service.

DNS-over-VPN

To ensure that their services are fully functional everywhere, Getflix offers its users DNS-over-VPN. This impressive feature allows Getflix subscribers to use SmartDNS through VPN to get full access online wherever they are by tunneling their data through VPN servers. For example, if you can’t use Getflix in a hotel, you can use their DNS-over-VPN feature as an alternative method to gain access to their DNS servers.

Please note that this method does not provide any encryption to your data on the internet, it is merely a way to reach Getflix DNS servers.

Installation, Configuration & Performance

Singing-up is very easy, all you need to do is register for an account and you will receive two emails to verify and confirm your account. Furthermore, Getflix provides a step-by-step guide to facilitate the installation and configuration process as it is not as easy as it seems. We have tested their service on our Windows systems and we faces some hassle while configuring Getflix.

As for the overall performance, we found it average as the connection we were provided was not fast enough and it got disconnected a couple of times.

Customer Support

Getflix only provides two forms of support: 24/7 email tickets and F.A.Q. They do not provide web chat service which we found disappointing.

Conclusion

Getflix is a good SmartDNS service provider in general. They can bypass geo-restrictions & provide access to a myriad of media channels online. Further, they offer several interesting features and a free VPN service that is included within their packages. On the other hand, we found their performance average and they do not have a live chat service.
